Great food, great staff

That's the place you go on a Sunday for a casual meal wearing your flip-flops... Yes, you can go on a Friday night, but we know you don't wanna wear flip-flops on a big night, right!? Jokes apart, the food is great and the atmosphere is really casual.

We make a point to stop here whenever we visit San Francisco. Great food, great service, and great prices. The salsa bar rocks! There are a lot of excellent dishes on the extensive menu. The burritos are really large and they even have one that’s all veggie. The fish burrito is fantastic. They also have a big variety of nachos, quesadillas, and tortas. The grilled chicken tacos are also excellent- seasoned just right.

Great service, tasty food, awesome portion sizes,and cool location. The torta was excellent and the unexpected soup it came with was just as good.

This is definitely one of my favorite Mexican eating spots in the city. One of the main reasons is they have a citrus salsa and a vegetable burrito is actually grilled vegetables

$3.50 for a 12 ounce bottle of coke I asked why they said it was imported from Mexico I’m sure it was however price Gouging for sure I grew up in the mission and I can honestly say I taste it better Mexican food

Officially making my rating a 5. I have lived in San Francisco for about 7 years now, and during that time I've been to El Metate easily over 30 times. The reasons are simple: the environment is authentic/enjoyable, the staff is friendly, the prices are reasonable, and the food is delicious. It's such a nice experience, they even catered my sister's wedding. It was a hit!The burritos and tacos are fan favorites, but my personal favorite are the enchiladas with the red and green sauce. Can't really go wrong with any dish though.El Metate has been my "hidden gem" that I show visitors. Highly recommend!

Ordered the grilled chicken nachos, very delicious with a perfect balance of meat, cheese, beans, guacamole, salsa, chips, jalapenos and sour cream. Very reasonable price of $9. Ate around 2:30, so full not going to eat dinner. Salsa verde was good, fire roasted salsa was great. Fresh ingredients, good presentation. I highly recommend this business.

El Metate combines tasty food with a cozy location. The staff is friendly and the other patrons are laid-back. El Metate is ideal for a casual date night or as a pit stop with friends before hitting the bars.

Burrito could do better, not sure if the place needs sanitizing.

Really good Mexican restaurant and wonderful service. Dining in is a little cozy, but they do have a little outdoor seating which is nice. It's worth a visit for their burritos or nachos.

I ordered two tacos, they were the most boring taste tacos I've ever had. It comes with two slices of tortilla and meat, n rice. that's not what most tacos In SF were like. However, the atmosphere inside is very nice. I wish they had put more stuff inside my tacos.

service is always quick and friendly. price is reasonable and they've got good salsa. i usually get a burrito or a plate. the burrito wearing a dress is a little strange and i think it keeps the neighborhood eclectic.

Just okay. Their food is a bit too Tex-Mex for me, with loads of cheese and whatnot. Their tortillas are also not handmade ... in the Mission, I'm not sure why you would choose this option.

It is a colorful place with a solid taqueria menu, but I wouldn't travel to eat here. The burritos are a bit weak for the price - the meat was quality but a bit tough, and the extras I ordered were sparse. I tasted the enchiladas and they were good- tangy sauce and white meat chicken -- and at a reasonable price. I would definitely choose a plate over a burrito next time. Good aguas frescas. You're lucky if this is your closest taqueria, bit it doesn't stand out in the crowded field.

Great taqueria run by great people. The dining room and outdoor seating are charming the best place in the Mission for Chile Colorado. It's a hidden gem! If you're looking to check off the best taquerias in SF, this must be on your list!

Visiting San Francisco and I've anyway eaten here twice. The food is really good! Nice selection at the salsa bar, and the prices are good and you get a lot of food. I recommend the chicken tamales.

Little bit more expensive than other taquerias in the mission but by far my favorite! Try the chicken torta. Its amazing and comes with the best chicken tortilla soup around!

We love metate long time. Great Mexican inexpensive foods. I love the platito de pescado and my daughter love the super burritos. Metate chips are simply the best and so is their salsas. Great ambient and fast service.

This is authentic. The chips are incredible! Cute open spacious place and good pricing.
